Alex Corretja recalls his brutal experience in Cincinnati after Sinner's retirement: "It's one of the most extreme places to play."

Jannik Sinner 's retirement againstCarlos Alcaraz in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 final on Monday reflected the toughness of the American tournament, described as "one of the most extreme places to play" by former tennis player and commentator Álex Corretja during his analysis of the match on Cadena Ser's "El Larguero."
The Catalan, a regular contributor to the program, participated in the Mason tournament numerous times during his career, so he spoke with knowledge of what happened with Sinner in a match that kicked off at 3:00 p.m. local time in extremely hot and humid conditions.
"This isn't new, although we're becoming more aware of it now thanks to social media and complaints from tennis players themselves," Corretja said, drawing on memories to describe what it was like back then to play in Ohio.
"It was one of the most extreme places you could play," he recalls, before adding that after each set, he had to "change not only his clothes, but also his shoes, because it was like he'd put them in a bathtub."
"The tournament was very long and it affected Sinner. The shame is that there was no final , but the good thing for him is that, if it's the heat, he'll be recovered in 24 or 48 hours," the commentator added, referring to the Italian's next event: the mixed doubles at the US Open, for which he is doubtful.
